We’ve been big fans of Nosotros Tequila since its 2019 launch, when we enjoyed its blanco and its 2020 reposado follow-up. We’ve been sleeping on the brand since, including its anejo and cider barrel releases as well as its entry into mezcal.
We correct that oversight today with a fresh look at all 5 products in the Nosotros lineup. The tequilas are blends of lowland and highland agave
Nosotros Tequila Blanco (2024) – Still big and peppery, with a touch of lemon and an earthy underbelly. There’s a nice creaminess here, and the tequila isn’t shy with the spice rack. I get more of a vanilla overtone this time around, which adds some sweetness as it develops on the palate, but the powerfully vegetal character on the finish remains immersive and immense. 80 proof. Nosotros Tequila Reposado (2024) – Aged 11 months in white oak. Still a wildly different experience with a heavy cinnamon churro note up top, chased by notes of nutmeg and spiced nuts. Loads of fresh nougat, vanilla, and cookie dough set this up with a hearty anejo character, while lashings of agave greenery give the finish an appropriate pinch of pepper to balance out the sweetness. 80 proof. A- / $50 [BUY IT NOW FROM RESERVEBAR]
Nosotros Madera Tequila Anejo – Nosotros tags its anejo releases with the “Madera” sub-label, meaning wood. The standard anejo is aged in white oak for 21 months. The anejo amps the sweet and spicy notes of the reposado character up even further: The nose is lush with caramel, vanilla, and coconut, touched with more of that cinnamon syrup character. Time in glass helps some of the greener, more peppery notes build, but it’s far tougher to push past that dessert-like depth here than it is with the reposado. The younger tequila has more balance to it, while this expression is lush and immersive, designed for those with a heavy sweet tooth. 80 proof. B+ / $99
Nosotros Madera Tequila Anejo Aged in Wet Cider Barrels – This is a new one, a very limited release that spends 20 months in “wet cider barrels” from 2 Towns Ciderhouse and, before that, Woodford Reserve. A very different a tequila experience, though the nose doesn’t immediately let on to what lies ahead, its nose similar to the standard anejo with overtones of caramel, baking spices, syrupy cafe con leche, and loads of vanilla. It isn’t until you dig into the palate that you find out where they hid all the apples. Notes of sweet apple pie, topped with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream, quickly emerge and provide an even more juicy, sugary experience than the standard anejo offers — yet the fruit notes balance out the more blatant vanilla syrup notes found in the tequila’s forebear, tempering the experience. A touch of acidity helps the finish from becoming cloying, perking up notes of sharp, red apple. It’s still a powerful, ultra-sweet anejo, but those who find these expressions unmanageable should give this unique experience a shot. 80 proof. A- / $225
Nosotros Mezcal Espadin Y Tobala – Nosotros’s first mezcal is a blend of the two agaves in its name, bottled unaged. Smoke and fruit are in equal proportions on the nose, melding apples and stone fruit with a light campfire smoke, hinting at seaside salinity. Lightly herbal and toasty on the palate, the mezcal sees prominent notes of barrel char and young wood throwing off some of that green smoke. As the finish builds, the mezcal shifts toward a slightly grassy character, evoking coconut husk and fresh tobacco leaf sprinkled with butterscotch. Enjoyable and balanced, but a hard sell at $70. 84 proof. B+ / $70 [BUY IT NOW FROM RESERVEBAR]
